【Surat Thani, Thailand — October 14, 2026】To promote the application of biochar and improve plantation soil quality, the SMGE team recently visited the Sustainable Rubber Producing Farmers Association of Surat Thani (SRA). The meeting focused on discussing future collaboration and observing the practical application of SMGE’s biochar in local rubber plantations.

During the field visit, we saw farmers mixing biochar with liquid organic fertilizer made from the Blackchin tilapia (Sarotherodon melanotheron), an invasive species affecting local ecosystems. Farmers first blend the SMGE biochar with the liquid organic fertilizer, leave it to rest for about a week, and then apply it throughout the plantations.
Faced with skyrocketing global fertilizer costs and long-term soil compaction and depletion caused by chemical fertilizers, rubber farmers hope that combining SMGE biochar with liquid organic fertilizer will leverage biochar’s powerful nutrient retention and soil improvement capabilities. This approach significantly reduces nutrient loss, boosts fertilizer efficiency, and helps mitigate the ecological crisis caused by invasive species in Thailand.

SMGE will continue to collaborate with government agencies, universities, and agricultural organizations to track the growth benefits of biochar in plantations. By expanding the applications of biochar, we aim to transform environmental and ecological hazards into green assets, creating a benchmark model for the green circular economy.
