[SURAT THANI, THAILAND – August 14, 2026] Associate Professor Arkom Palamanit from the Faculty of Engineering at Prince of Songkla University led a delegation of ten master’s and doctoral students from the Research Center for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES) for a technical visit and exchange at the SMGE biochar plant on August 14, 2026. The two parties agreed to launch an industry-academia cooperation focused on deep-dive research and practical applications of EFB biochar across energy, environmental protection, and agriculture.
This exchange focused on the versatile development of EFB biochar. SMGE plans to collaborate with Prince of Songkla University on a series of tests and experiments targeting key areas such as agricultural applications, soil improvement, crop cultivation, and carbon sequestration technologies to develop high-value-added biochar products. SMGE aims to leverage Assoc. Prof. Arkom’s academic expertise and data analysis capabilities to identify optimal biochar formulations and application models.
To help nurture future talent in environmental sustainability, SMGE plans to offer research scholarships, encouraging top students to actively engage in innovative biochar R&D. Through this joint effort between industry and academia, both organizations hope to contribute meaningfully to global environmental sustainability and carbon reduction.
